A long time ago, I went on a solo camping trip on the coast of equatorial East Africa. The sun rose quickly at 6:00 am, and set just as quickly at 6:00 pm. I made a campfire just before the sun went down, and went to sleep an hour or two later. I was awakened by the sun and heat by 7:00 am. From noon to 2:00 or 3:00 pm it was too hot to do anything but nap. Consequently I spent more time asleep than awake. What happened was that my dreams had a continuity to them, and my waking experiences felt less real, the reverse of our conventional experience.

Very cool. I wonder too if you felt more rested, energized, etc. I try not to fetishize "natural" living, but I've found that on camping trips, it feels great to be off the clock and simply responding to zeitgebers like sunlight and temperature.

Yes, while awake I had loads of energy and was keenly aware of everything going on within and around me. That three-month adventure was a period of my life when I felt most alive, but I can’t say it had to do with sleeping a lot. It was the totality of just being there, and living on the edge.

Yes, it's not just the blue light but the content that keeps us up late and lowers the quality of sleep....Maybe at least find content that relaxes you?
